Tech Writing Training in New
Jersey

The University/College system of New Jersey offers
many opportunities for training in technical writing. Whether you want
to receive a full certificate, or just take a few specialty courses,
New Jersey colleges will meet your needs.
Rutgers/New Brunswick
offers an extensive technical writing certificate. In addition to a
tech writing principles course, and a grant writing course?fairly typical
in technical writing certificates?Rutgers also offers specialty courses,
such as Writing for Biology/Natural Sciences and Writing for Engineers.

NJIT offers both
a BA and BS in Pro-fessional and Technical Communication. These degrees
combine specialized technical writing courses such as Rutgers offers
with laboratory/software courses. A sampling of these laboratory courses
in-clude Information Systems and Productivity Toolware, Multimedia Communication,
and Electronic Publishing Lab within complete undergraduate degrees
that include foreign language study (the BA), history, math (calculus,
statistics), science and a physical education (!) requirement. You can

Essex Community College
in Newark offers a Certificate Program in Digital Media and Electronic
Publishing. This certificate includes courses in Computer Enhanced Layout
& Design, Desktop Publishing and Presentation Graphics, Electronic
Mechanical/Pre-Press Production, Basic Web Page Design and Video Graphic

Middlesex County College
offers a Technical Writing Certificate that includes courses in Writing
Proposals, Writing Technical Articles, and Writing Standard Operating
Procedures/Manuals. To find out more about the technical writing certificate,
call 732–906–2256. In addition, Middlesex offers online
courses in web design, graphic design, and multimedia. For more information

Middlesex also offers a Technical Writing credit–earning course
through their English Department.
All community colleges also offer various courses
in software applications, such as Microsoft Office. Contact your local
